The purpose of the Cranberry Country Chamber of Commerce Legislative Committee is to keep our members aware of all federal, state, and local initiatives that may impact our business community.  Since joining SEMAC (Southeastern Massachusetts Alliance of Chambers) our voice is even greater as a part of an Alliance of eight other Chambers representing thousands of businesses in Southeastern Massachusetts.

Public Policy Advocacy Agenda 2019-2020

The Southeastern Massachusetts Alliance of Chambers (SEMAC) will advocate for and support issues that improve the business climate and overall quality of life for the Southeastern Massachusetts region, all while opposing legislation that will have an adverse effect on business and industry.

SEMAC is fully committed to being engaged on the local, state and federal level and being your voice.

SEMAC has a responsibility to its almost 4,000-member strong alliance to review all pending legislation and regulations for its impact on their financial well-being, and, if necessary, develop public positions that speak on their behalf.

Our advocacy efforts are designed to fulfill 10 core priority areas: economic development, education and workforce, energy and the environment, public infrastructure, regulatory reform, taxation, transportation, healthcare, public safety and government. 

Economic Development:

  • Advocate for increased investments in regional economic development and technical assistance funding at the state and federal levels; promote a stronger sense of regionalization among cities and towns throughout Southeastern Mass.
  • Advocate for a positive local business climate, one that encourages growth, entrepreneurship and pay equity.
  • Advocate for diversification of the local, state and federal economy; continued growth and advocacy centered around the base industries of the Southeastern Mass region.

Education & Workforce:

  • Advocate for educational policy that strengthens school-to-career pipelines.
  • Advocate for supporting educational opportunities and programs which provide high-quality education and resources to students.
  • Advocate for public education funding & reform.
  • Advocate for policies and programs that promote increased educational attainment and outcomes.

 Energy & the Environment:

  • Advocate for economically viable renewable energy sources, which may reduce energy costs and diversify supply.
  • Advocate for policies that stabilize or lower costs of electricity.

Public Infrastructure:

  • Advocate for financial investments of all roads, bridges, sidewalks and maritime infrastructure throughout our region.
  • Advocate for better connectivity to Boston via highway improvements.

Regulatory Reform:

  • Advocate for smart regulations to ensure workplace safety & protect public health.
  • Advocate for a fair regulatory system and streamline the permitting process.
  • Advocate for a regulatory environment that promotes jobs and small business growth.

Taxation:

  • Advocate for reducing the tax burden on business owners and residents.

Transportation:

  • Advocate for rail connectivity to and from Boston.
  • Advocating for increased public transportation infrastructure funding sources (Regional Transit Authority) at the state level.

Healthcare:

  • Advocate for affordable and competitive healthcare options for the business community.
  • Advocate for Association health plans
  • Advocate for strong public health.
  • Advocate for increased state and federal funding to address the opioid crisis.

Public Safety:

  • Advocate for safe communities.

Government:

  • Advocate for more transparent and accountable government on the state and local level.
  • Advocate for ballot initiative reform at the statewide level.
